Frank Folds

Frank Folds


Frank Folds is Director of Bands at Alton C. Crews Middle School in Gwinnett County where he has served since the school opened in 1997.  He has also served as band director in Baldwin, Jeff Davis, Camden and Clayton Counties as well as Five Forks Middle School in Gwinnett County.  Mr. Folds was named Teacher of the Year in 1992-93 for Camden County and Teacher of the Year for Alton C. Crews Middle School in 2008-2009.  Mr. Folds has also served as orchestra director at W. R. Cannon United Methodist Church in Snellville.  He is an active member of Georgia Music Educators Association having served as District Eight Chairman, Junior High and Middle School All State Organizing Chairman, GMEA All State Vice-president, GMEA Performance Evaluation Vice-president, State Chairman of the Band Division and hosted and organized Performance Evaluations and All-State auditions.  He has also served as both clinician and adjudicator around Georgia and an adjudicator in South Carolina including serving as a clinician at the University of Georgia Middle School Festival on three occasions. Mr. Folds has worked on the staff of the University of Georgia Summer Music Camp, Encore Music Camp and Upbeat Music Camp.  His bands have consistently received Superior ratings at Georgia Performance Evaluations and have been invited to perform at Walt Disney World on nine occasions and the Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference once.  In 2005 the Crews 8th Grade Band was the featured band in a performance of music by Pulitzer Prize winning composer Michael Colgrass as part of the Music Education Leadership Institute at the Rialto Center for Performing Arts in Atlanta.  The 8th Grade Band has also performed at University of Georgia Middle School Festival in 2007 and 2011. Mr. Folds is a member of Tara Winds Adult Band and serves as treasurer of the Tara Winds Scholarship Foundation.  He has also served Phi Beta Mu as a Member-at-Large on the Executive Council and currently serves as Chairman of the Georgia Band Masters Hall of Fame. Mr. Folds has twice been honored with inclusion in both Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Education and is the recipient of the National Band Association Citation of Excellence. A native of Forest Park, GA, Frank holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree, a Master of Music Education degree and an Educational Specialist degree in Music Education from the University of Georgia.  He and his wife Cheri reside in Lawrenceville with their four children, Elliott, 17, Ansley, 13,and twins, Emily and Abby, 11. Mr. Folds is a member of National Association for Music Education, Georgia Music Educators Association, National Band Association, Professional Association of Georgia Educators, Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Phi Beta Mu International Band Masters Fraternity.
