Description: The Lanier Chamber Singers has been producing quality choral music for Northeast Georgia for the past 25 years.  The group performs a wide range of repertoire from a cappella Renaissance literature to current, exciting new pieces, performed with a diverse array of accompaniments.  The choir has a rich history of performances including regional ACDA performances in 2006 and 2010, appearances at the Emory Community Choral Festival, the Georgia ACDA convention in Spivey Hall in 2013, and a 2014 appearance at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston.  The auditioned choir draws its members from throughout northeast Georgia. Members of The Lanier Chamber Singers have backgrounds in music, but most are not musicians by trade.  Members volunteer their time in singing because of their dedication to the art-form and their commitment to the cultural enrichment of the community.

The position will begin July 1, 2017. The successful candidate will possess excellent conducting skills, superior communication skills, a history of musical accomplishments, the ability to teach musicianship, vocal and choral techniques and relevant languages, the ability to establish musical goals and reach them, and the ability to work with a volunteer organization.  S/he will be expected to secure professional soloists and instrumentalists as needed. The Artistic Director shall serve as a member of the Lanier Singers board, attending monthly board meetings.

The group performs 2-3 concerts per year, rehearsing on Tuesday evenings from 7-9pm at Gainesville First Presbyterian Church. Occasional Saturday rehearsals occur as necessary.

This job is for an after-school and, if possible, during-school, “independent contractor” (not full time employee) to rehearse the color guard at Adairsville H.S. during the competitive marching season. The season is: 2 weeks of camp- (no night rehearsals) in July (paid separately an additional camp honorarium) and, after-school rehearsals, two times per week, Tues and Thurs, 4-6 pm. The after-school time would pay a negotiated season-long honorarium. The competitive season is approx. 10 weeks from Aug. through the 2nd week of October, after which there would be no requirement to attend.

Pre- and band camps are two consecutive weeks, July 10-14 and July 17-21, 2017, held at Adairsville HS. Lunch is provided, camp rehearsals dismiss at 5:30 p.m. (no nights).

In addition, for another honorarium, the candidate could instruct the color guard class that meets during the school day, 2-3:30 if available. That could be, for example, on Tues and Thurs as well, so additional trips on non-after school days would not be necessary.

The guard instructor will also attend Varsity Football games (Friday evenings) as available, two contests (scheduled for Sat. 9/30 and Sat. 10/14), as well as the Bartow Co. Marching Exhibition (one Monday evening in Sept.)

The AHS Marching Band is a competitive marching band that meets twice weekly after school, Tuesdays & Thursdays from 4 – 6p. The 2016 AHS guard had 24 members, and was rated superior and placed in class. The AHS band is a superior ensemble that seeks to entertain and compete, in that order, and is not excessively interested in emulating drum corps as much as making sure the show design and execution is musical, quality, and entertaining to the crowds and judges.
